This is a powerful masculine style that carries on in the tradition of the best of early Papunya paintings. Often echoing traditional ground painting designs, these paintings are typified by complex, highly precise dotting and bold symmetrical designs. Some of the most prominent artists are Lindsay Bird Mpetyane, Louie Pwerle (deceased), his younger brother Cowboy Louie Pwerle, Greenie Purvis, and David Ross Pwerle. Utopia's male painters have been somewhat overshadowed by the more painterly abstraction of Utopia's women. Greenie Purvis is the only major artist amongst the men to have adopted a looser more abstract style in recent years.
