19. The Great Salt Pan, Walala Tjapaltjarri, 2000, 78" x 24"
(198 x 72 cms.) Walala Tjapaltjarri is the younger brother of Warlimpirinya Tjapaltjarri. These brothers were famous for being part of a small band of Pintupi living a traditional pre-contact lifestyle until they "walked in" to an Aboriginal community in the 1980's. Walala began painting a decade later emerging a distinctive minimal stylist, owing little in the way of debt to Pintupi painters who had come before him. |
